Follow the IKF World Youth Championship U23 held in Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei at the beginning of November 2008 a new IKF Ranking list has been compiled.
The Ranking list is based on points earned by countries during IKF recognised events for National teams and National Youth Teams. Weightings depending on the event are applied to the basic points earned. Furthermore, weightings reducing the points earned in previous years are also applied each year. Ranking periods run from November each year and are made on a four year cycle. The effect of this means points earned from 1 November 2008 are weighted as 1, those from the previous November (which included the IKF World Championship) are weighted by 0.75, the year before by 0.5 and the oldest year in the cycle by 0.25.
The effect of the inclusion of the WYC U23 results and the reduction in weighting for previous years has meant that there have been significant changes in the top 10. The top ten are as shown with last year’s rank in brackets:
